Summer reading for AR

  • Students should take an AR test on the books read.
  • After achieving a score of an 80 or higher on the AR test, points will be added to the student’s final reading average for each nine weeks.
  • Example: 1 test with an 80 or above=5 points added to the 1st nine weeks reading average. 2 tests taken with an 80 or above=5 points added to the 2nd nine weeks. 3 tests taken with an 80 or above =5 points added to the 3rd nine weeks. 4 tests taken with an 80 or above =5 points added to the 4th nine weeks.
  • All books must be from the approved summer reading list forthe student to qualify for this opportunity.

 AR Login and Parent Portal

  • We will send home your childs updated AR username and password as soon as possible after the 1st day of school.
  • Please make sure to sign up for the AR Parent Portal so that you can track your childs reading progress and be aware of theprogress they are making toward their AR goal each nine weeks.    AR Reading Requirements:
  • 4th Grade students are required to earn 12 AR points each nine weeks. Each nine weeks the count begins again at zero.  Points are not carried forward.
  • Two test grades are given for this requirement:

A comprehension average grade for all the AR tests taken

in nine weeks.

A points percentage grade that reflects the number of points earned toward the 12-point requirement each nine weeks.  12 points = 100, 10 points = 83 and so forth.

  • At the end of the first week in each grading period, the first scores for AR that nine weeks will be entered into INOW even if the scores are still zero. Students will “earn up” each week as they make progress toward the 12-point goal and these INOW grades will change accordingly. AR grades are updated in INOW at the end of the day each Monday.
  • When a student doubles his or her AR points to 24 in nine weeks, he or she receives a bonus test grade of 100! If the points are tripled, a second bonus of 100 is given!  Two bonus scores allowed per nine weeks.
  • Points earned for Summer Reading will count toward meeting the 12 points for the first nine weeks!
