Happy Homecoming Week!

Jubilation Station!

Welcome to Glenwood Fine Arts! My program philosophy is E3...Explore, Entertain, and Empower. Serving students from 7th through 12th grade, my upper school program encourages students to explore the fine arts while empowering them with confidence and learning connections. My hope is to interest the new comer to the arts as much as I challenge those who have been dabbling for years!
September Highlight
Almost every class seems to be painting these days! Even drama has been applying their learning about technical theatre by getting out the paint and helping with costume building. All my creative expressions, fine arts enrichment, and art classes have been playing in paint with exciting results! Perhaps my favorite from the week, though, is the volunteers who came early to paint dots on the faces of lower school students dressed up for their first DOT day!
Upcoming Events
The Little Mermaid
Save the date to see the show Nov 3rd and 4th!
My name is Melissa Wilks. I am genuinely happy to encourage your students each day. Though relatively new to Glenwood, I am a veteran teacher. Also, my children are life long Glenwood learners.
My degrees are in Theatre Education, but I also have the opportunity to teach visual art. All courses, with the exception of DE Theatre, are designed as integrated arts courses. I strive to broaden the students' awareness of all Fine Arts by connecting fine arts to each other and to life skills. Our goal is to explore and appreciate, if we discover talent, that is only a bonus!
Throughout my teaching career I have been blessed with recognition and opportunities to grow professionally. I was the 2008 Muscogee County Teacher of the Year, named a Georgia Master teacher in 2009, became a Harvard fellow in 2012 attending their Project Zero Program, and was named a finalist for the 2017 Page One Top Teacher Award. I say that to assure you that whatever "fun" you hear of in Fine Arts, it is underscored with learning and developmentally appropriate curriculum. I love to teach and take it more seriously than it might ever seem.
Thank you for the opportunity to invest in your children.
